It\u2019s about <strong>37 km<\/strong> from South Mumbai. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Owner \/ Developer:<\/strong> Adani Airport Holdings Ltd in partnership with Maharashtra\u2019s CIDCO. The project is under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cost \/ Investment:<\/strong> Around <strong>\u20b919,650 crore<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key Features &amp; Capacity of NMIA Airport<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Scale &amp; Area:<\/strong> Built over ~1,160 hectares land <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Phase-1 Capacity:<\/strong> The first phase has one terminal, one runway, capable of handling about <strong>2 crore  passengers annually<\/strong>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Full Capacity (Future Phases):<\/strong> Eventually to have 4 terminals, 2 parallel runways, handling up to <strong>9 crore passengers\/year<\/strong> and 3.25 million metric tonnes of cargo. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Design \/ Architecture:<\/strong> Terminal shape and design inspired by the <strong>lotus flower<\/strong> (Kamal) with modern infrastructure (lots of check-in counters, aerobridges, self baggage drop; automated and digital features). <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sustainability &amp; Misc Features:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Solar power generation (~47 MW) planned. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Battery powered Electronic buses for local connections<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Water taxi connectivity is also part of the design<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Automated people mover (APM) to connect terminals in later phases. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is happening at NMIA Airport<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Inauguration Date:<\/strong> The airport was formally inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on <strong>8 October 2025<\/strong>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Start of Operations:<\/strong> Commercial\/domestic flights are expected to begin around <strong>mid-December 2025<\/strong>. International flights will follow in due course. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How it will change the life of Mumbaikar<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Alleviating Congestion<\/strong><br>The existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has been highly congested. NMIA will relieve that burden by sharing domestic\/international traffic.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Economic Growth &amp; Connectivity<\/strong><br>Growth in trade, tourism, and employment is expected, both locally (in Navi Mumbai region) and more broadly.
