Mumbai is declared Toll Free

Mumbai is Toll Free

Maharashtra has eliminated toll fees for light motor vehicles at five toll booths in Mumbai.

Light motor vehicles encompass automobiles, sport utility vehicles, vans, and compact trucks.

The government of Maharashtra announced on Monday a complete exemption from toll fees for light motor vehicles at all five toll plazas in Mumbai, as stated by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. This decision precedes the forthcoming Assembly elections and will take effect at midnight.

This toll exemption is anticipated to provide significant relief to individuals traveling to and from Mumbai in the lead-up to Diwali. Commuters, who have expressed concerns regarding lengthy wait times, will now have the opportunity to travel without incurring toll charges at any of the five locations: Dahisar LBS Road-Mulund, Eastern Express Highway-Mulund, Airoli Creek Bridge, and Vashi.

Light motor vehicles are specifically engineered for the transportation of passengers or cargo. This category encompasses a variety of vehicles, including cars (such as hatchbacks, sedans, and SUVs), jeeps, vans, auto-rickshaws, taxis, delivery vans, and small trucks. In Mumbai, over six hundred thousand vehicles traverse the city each day, with light motor vehicles accounting for 80 percent of this total.

Maharashtra Minister Dadaji Dagadu Bhuse announced that a fee of Rs 45 and Rs 75 is imposed on light motor vehicles entering any of the five toll booths located in Mumbai. He further stated that there are approximately 70,000 heavy vehicles that travel to and from Mumbai. Heavy vehicles are defined as those with a gross vehicle weight surpassing 7,500 kg, which encompasses trucks, trailers, tankers, and various other goods-carrying vehicles.

The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena and some leaders from the Shiv Sena (both Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde factions) had been demanding a toll waiver on all Mumbai booths.

Recently, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and former minister Aaditya Thackeray also demanded toll waiver on all entry points of Mumbai.

Finally the decision is taken and thanekars, mumbaikars can take advantage of travelling anywhere in Mumbai and suburbs without any toll charges in cars and suvs.
