How to use Google Free Wi-Fi on Local Train Stations ?

Last Year during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to USA, Google CEO, Sundar Pichai announced about the FREE WiFi to 400 Indian Railway Stations. Free Wi-Fi service will be delivered in co-operation with Google & RailWire, Indian Railways entity.  Google plans to cover more than 100 railway stations by the end of year 2016. First of such kind Free Wi-Fi service is offered at Mumbai Central, WR line station. Soon this will be rolled out to many more stations in coming days. There are no specific details on speed and performance of such connection, only that Commuters will get fast enough internet in the first hour to stream a High Definition Video. After one hour of usage, basic speed Internet will continue to work. First hour limit will avoid the misuse of this connection.

This service is going to give opportunity to common person in India to avail Fast FREE Wi-Fi on the stations using their mobile phone devices. Once you’re near Google Free Wi-Fi railway station, go to your mobile device Wi-Fi settings. You’ll find a hotspot with the name as “RailWire Wi-Fi”. Select this.

New Local Trains starting from 26-Jan-2016

40 new Local Trains will be added by Central Railway Mumbai from 26-Jan-2016. 11 services will be added on CR line, 22 on Thane Vashi line and 7 on harbour line.

This may reduce little burden on Mumbai Local Trains which are over packed these days.

How to find if you need to pay Toll at Naka ?

From 1st June, 2015 onwards many Toll Nakas in Maharashtra State started offering free transit to Private cars. To find if you need to pay the toll at the Toll Naka you can pay attention to these sign boards. Following toll naka has blue board which mentions Earnest Request to commuters. “As Per New Notification Implemented w.e.f. 01/06/2015 By Government of Maharashtra No Exemption Is Given At This Toll Plaza”

Toll Tax stopped on 12 nakas & exempted at 53 for LMVs

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis announced scrapping of 12 toll plazas in the state with effective from 1st June, 2015. He also announced 53 other Toll Plazas where LMV and ST Buses will be exempted.

Five entry point Tolls in Mumbai will remain operational and there is no change to that.

It is known from sources that Dahisar, Thane, Mulund, Airoli and Vashi Toll Plazas bring about 4000 crores revenue to the Government.

Decision to close these Toll Plazas will increase the burden by 500 crores to the Government.

Platform Ticket is now for Rs. 10

Long distance train india

From 1st April, 2015, Wednesday, platform ticket on Railway stations will cost Rs. 10 instead of Rs. 5.

Platform tickets are usually purchased by relatives who come to drop or pickup at station.

Also now, one can book a long distance mail train ticket 120 days in advance of travel date. This used to be 60 days in advance booking till now.

This will fill the long distance trains seats 4 months in advance.

BEST Bus fare hiked from 1-April-2015

Starting from 1st April, 2015 travelling in BEST bus will be costly. This is how the new fare will be charged.

  • For Distance upto 2km Rs. 8 for Ordinary Bus & Rs.30 for AC Bus
  • For Distance upto 4km Rs. 10 for Ordinary Bus & Rs. 35 for AC Bus
  • For Distance upto 6km Rs. 14 for Ordinary Bus & Rs. 55 for AC Bus
  • For Distance upto 10km Rs. 18 for Ordinary Bus & Rs. 65 for AC Bus
  • For Distance upto 14km Rs. 22 for Ordinary Bus
  • For Distance upto 20km Rs. 26 for Ordinary Bus
  • For Distance upto 30km Rs.30 for Ordinary Bus

 

Mumbai local train tickets from mobile app now

Now you can book Mumbai Suburban Local Train tickets from UTS Mobile app. This app was launched on 27-Dec-2014 from Dadar at 4:00pm.

  1. You can login with your mobile number and password as sent by the service.
  2. There is R-Wallet in the app where you need to maintain some balance to purchase the tickets.
  3. You can add the money to R-Wallet by recharging from UTS counters available in the suburban railway stations or through utsonmobile.indianrail.gov.in
  4. Once you have sufficient balance, you need to choose the source and destination station as per your travel plan.
  5. App offers you the fare for first and second class. Choose the class in which you wish to travel.
  6. Once you paid that through R-Wallet. it sends you the instructions for printing the ticket from ATVM machine.
  7. Initially some of the stations will have these ATVMs where you can enter your mobile number and booking id to print the ticket.
  8. Once you’ve printed the ticket you can start your journey.
