20 days Mumbai Shopping Festival in Jan-2018

Maharashtra Government on the lines of Dubai Festival has organised 20 days of Mumbai Shopping Festival. Festival will start from January 12 and will go on till January 31th. During the festival period there are discounts and offers given by various brands, hotels, shopping malls, streets. Many of these setups will remain open late night during the festival period.

There will be Musical Shows, Artists Events & Screening of popular movies at discounted rates. Many of the malls, hotels, retailers has signed up for Mumbai Shopping Festival of January 2018.

Many community delicacies at tourists spots will also be attraction of Mumbai Shopping Festival. There will be Food Truck zones setup during the weekends. Food Trucks at famous public hangout spots, during the weekend in association with Food Truck Association Of India (TFTA)

Matheran mini train has stopped working from May-2016 till Oct-2017 (17 Months). It was stopped because of two derailments. Good News is after extensive repairs and introduction of new safety measures it is starting again. Initially it will only operate between Aman Lodge and Matheran station which is 3.5km distance later it will be operational between Neral to Matheran.

On Sunday, the toy train completed the trial run, after which go ahead signal was issued by commissioner of railway safety.

The Central Railway  RPRO Sunil Udasi said, “The service will benefit lots of travellers, especially those uncomfortable sitting on the horses.“ At present, visitors are driving upto Dasturi Naka, and then covering the remaining journey by foot or on horseback.

Restarting of Matheran Toy Train will put all the hotel owners and locals back in business. Matheran hill station source of earning was affected since long because of discontinuation of mini train service.

New Safety Features are introduced on Neral Matheran Track

  • Air brake system replaces hand brakes; brake failure was said to be one of the reason of 2016 derailments
  • Netted safety walls along the tracks
  • Track surface re-laid
  • Drainage system along the track revamped
  • Changes in coach design

There is major revision to Mumbai Local Train timetable in Western Railway & Central Railway Line. This update or revision in Mumbai Local Train Timetable is being offered as Dussehra Gift to all the Mumbaikars.

Overall there will be 100 additional suburban services on CR, WR, HR and Trans-harbour line.

Last Year during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to USA, Google CEO, Sundar Pichai announced about the FREE WiFi to 400 Indian Railway Stations. Free Wi-Fi service will be delivered in co-operation with Google & RailWire, Indian Railways entity.  Google plans to cover more than 100 railway stations by the end of year 2016. First of such kind Free Wi-Fi service is offered at Mumbai Central, WR line station. Soon this will be rolled out to many more stations in coming days. There are no specific details on speed and performance of such connection, only that Commuters will get fast enough internet in the first hour to stream a High Definition Video. After one hour of usage, basic speed Internet will continue to work. First hour limit will avoid the misuse of this connection.

This service is going to give opportunity to common person in India to avail Fast FREE Wi-Fi on the stations using their mobile phone devices. 40 new Local Trains will be added by Central Railway Mumbai from 26-Jan-2016. 11 services will be added on CR line, 22 on Thane Vashi line and 7 on harbour line.

This may reduce little burden on Mumbai Local Trains which are over packed these days.

How to find if you need to pay Toll at Naka ?

From 1st June, 2015 onwards many Toll Nakas in Maharashtra State started offering free transit to Private cars. To find if you need to pay the toll at the Toll Naka you can pay attention to these sign boards. Following toll naka has blue board which mentions Earnest Request to commuters. “As Per New Notification Implemented w.e.f. 01/06/2015 By Government of Maharashtra No Exemption Is Given At This Toll Plaza”

This means you need to pay the Toll Tax for Private car as mentioned on green board. Single journey Rs. 29 and Return Journey Rs. 43.50. This photo is taken at Kalwa/Mumbra Toll Plaza on Thane to Nashik Highway.

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis announced scrapping of 12 toll plazas in the state with effective from 1st June, 2015. He also announced 53 other Toll Plazas where LMV and ST Buses will be exempted.

Five entry point Tolls in Mumbai will remain operational and there is no change to that.

It is known from sources that Dahisar, Thane, Mulund, Airoli and Vashi Toll Plazas bring about 4000 crores revenue to the Government.

Decision to close these Toll Plazas will increase the burden by 500 crores to the Government.

From 1st April, 2015, Wednesday, platform ticket on Railway stations will cost Rs. 10 instead of Rs. 5.

Platform tickets are usually purchased by relatives who come to drop or pickup at station.
